Natural Remedies for Allergies
If you prefer to avoid medications, natural remedies can be a great solution for your allergies. Read on for plenty of tips and tricks to help with relief.
- Try laying a cold, damp washcloth over your face for a few moments to help to relieve and clear congestion
- Gently rinse your eyes with clean, cool water for relief of itching and irritation
- Purchase a neti pot or sinus rinse kit which can flush out allergens such as dust, pollen, and bacteria (if a saline solution is used, this can also work as a decongestant)
- Avoid lawn care, such as mowing, whenever possible, but particularly between May and July
- Take a hot shower and wash hair to get rid of any pollen on your body from being outside while possibly opening up the sinuses temporarily
- Breathe in steam by boiling water and then pouring it into a bowl. Lean over the bowl and cover your head with a towel to capture the steam for a few minutes.
- Sip a hot cup of tea (such as peppermint, which can help relieve congestion)
- Search out a local facility offering acupuncture, which may provide allergy relief
- In your home, opt for bare, easy to clean floors in your home instead of carpeting whenever possible
